An exciting opportunity has arisen for information specialists to join the NHS Wales Performance and Improvement, run by Public Health Wales. The network works with health boards and trusts in planning services and managing programs and projects across organisational boundaries. This role will be in the field of cancer and will support the delivery of the Cancer Improvement Plan.

The information specialist will be part of a team that works closely with clinicians and others to analyse and interpret data to support clinical audits and quality improvement; plays a vital role in developing knowledge-based systems and solutions for cancer in Wales; and uses knowledge and skills to support various projects across the NHS Wales Performance and Improvement to improve services.

Main duties of the job

  • Act as an information specialist, providing guidance and support to clinicians and multidisciplinary cancer services teams across Wales. Collaborate to develop and optimise data collection processes, promoting best practices and efficient workflows.
  • Communicate complex and occasionally sensitive information to diverse audiences, including healthcare professionals and management at local, regional, and national levels. Adapt communication styles to suit formal presentations, collaborative discussions, or one-on-one interactions as needed.
  • Organise and prioritise a demanding workload acting on own initiative where required. Balance competing priorities to meet tight deadlines. Adapt work plans as needed to respond to changing priorities from external stakeholders or organisational needs.
  • Respect and safeguard confidentiality and sensitive information
  • Foster collaboration across organisational boundaries, building strong working relationships with cancer teams to enhance data accuracy, facilitate information flow, and standardise processes.
  • Represent the NHS Wales Performance and Improvement at national and specialist user groups, such as the Cancer Informatics Programme, to communicate highly complex statistical/epidemiological matters through presentations, written reports, and data analyses.
