It is an exciting time to be joining Public Health Wales Microbiology as we have dramatically expanded our workforce and the way Microbiology services are delivered. Public Health Wales Microbiology consists of a network of laboratories currently based at multiple sites across Wales.

An opportunity has arisen to join our Bacteriology Team at Singleton Hospital. You will have the chance to be at the forefront of Microbiology in Wales following significant investment in new technology and staff. We aim to provide a responsive, modern, rapid diagnostic service for the people of Wales using state of the art equipment.

To demonstrate our commitment and dedication of our staff we offer automatic progression to Band 6 on the successful completion of their IBMS Specialist Diploma (Medical Microbiology /Bacteriology) with 100% compliance for statutory and mandatory training and relevant competency documents.

The successful post holders will be fully supported, with full training given from our training team. You will be encouraged to develop and opportunities will be given to enhance your career.

Main duties of the job

Applications are invited from candidates who are enthusiastic, well-motivated and innovative, with good organisational and practical abilities supported by scientific knowledge. Candidates should possess well developed interpersonal and communication skills and an ability to support individual and team working. Being flexible in your approach to work, self-motivated and with good practical skills will be fundamental to your role. You will use your knowledge and skills as a Biomedical Scientist to contribute to a robust and fully operational system within the department. You will assist in building a strong team and support the Senior Biomedical Scientists to enable continual improvements in the department and throughout the Microbiology Network. An understanding of good laboratory practice and ISO15189 quality management is desirable. The post holder will support the provision of a 24/7 service in accordance with a published rota.Our team offers a varied, challenging and rewarding work environment, with the opportunity to be at the forefront of Microbiology in Wales.
