Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Workforce Learning and Development Manager to join the new Workforce Education and Learning Team within a large national screening programme. Diabetic Eye Screening Wales (DESW) is part of Public Health Wales and is currently working to improve its service and patient care. The program is undergoing changes through a transformation programme to provide a high-quality screening service and has a large workforce with various training needs, including regular competency assessments and refresher training. The person in this role will help enhance performance, quality, and overall service delivery.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and creative individual with a background in healthcare, developing various learning programs, and a strong understanding of different learning theories to create and deliver training for the DESW workforce. Flexibility for location base will be considered for the right candidate, however, it will be expected that the successful candidate will support staff in our regional offices in South Wales (Pontypridd), on a frequent basis.

The post holder will work closely with the Workforce Education and Learning Lead, the Program Lead Nurse, and senior managers to support staff through their national diplomas in health screening. You will also design and deliver training programs aligned with newly developed standard operating procedures.

Base can also be in Carmarthen, Bangor or Wrexham.

Main duties of the job

The post will involve occasional evening and weekend working.

DESW is a national programme, with bases in North, West and South Wales. The post holder will be expected to attend regular team meetings in person.

To lead and manage projects in the delivery of the internal training programme, annual competencies and induction for new starters providing mentoring and coaching support where required.

Designing and implementation of new training packages as new standard operating procedures arise, ranging from consent training to Fundus imaging camera use and how to design the training in a way that will maximise learner engagement, learning transfer and impact.

The post holder must possess advanced knowledge across a broad range of workforce learning and development activities and initiatives, underpinned by a relevant professional qualification/in-depth and recent experience. Negotiation skills for developing learning contracts and tailoring resources to assist learners with specific needs.

The post holder should be able to demonstrate a commitment to life-long learning through personal and continuous professional development The post holder will research and evaluate best clinical practices.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
