Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for those with experience of specialised cancer data in Wales. In this senior role you will provide national leadership to advance a range of diverse highly-specialised cancer data development programmes.

The fundamental responsibility of the post-holder is to ensure the annual delivery of the statutory function of cancer registration in a timely manner and to a high quality, using international rules and definitions for cancer registration and the ICD-Oncology classifications, as well as standardised and specialised cancer staging classifications.

If you would like to discuss the role, please do not hesitate to contact the Director of WCISU, Prof Dyfed Wyn Huws Dyfed.Huws@wales.nhs.uk

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for working with and providing expert advice to key leads across Public Health Wales, NHS England, ONS, DHCW, health boards, Wales Cancer Network and Welsh Government, as well as with the cancer third sector in Wales/UK, and internationally with research organisations and NGOs (e.g. WHO IARC and the UKIACR).

Current areas of work for cancer registration - as well as data for rapid cancer analysis - include developing new sources of clinical oncology data with NHS Wales, cancer genomics data and Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT) data. The data is population-based, and so data on Welsh residents treated in English Trusts also has to be sourced.

The post holder will manage the specialist cancer registration team, and will deputise for the director of WCISU on occasions, as required.
