Job summary

This is a new and exciting opportunity to lead our learning and development responsibilities for a large national screening programme. Diabetic Eye Screening Wales (DESW) is one of eight population screening programmes within Public Health Wales. DESW is now in an implementation phase of its transformation programme which is striving to improve outcomes and patient care through delivery of an 'excellent screening service'. The programme has a large active workforce with varying training and development needs, including annual competency assessments and refresher training requirements. The successful applicant will have a key role in supporting and promoting improvements in performance, quality and service delivery.

If you have the experience, commitment, and desire to make our staff and service the best they can be, then we would like to hear from you. Flexibility for location base will be considered for the right candidate, however, it will be expected that the successful candidate will support staff in our regional offices in South Wales (Pontypridd), on a frequent basis.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be required to work with initiative, determination, and the ability to develop a responsive and effective specialised training and competence programme for all staff groups within DESW. You will manage this by working closely with the Programme Lead Nurse, DESW line managers and senior managers as an integral part of your role. You will also be expected to work with the PHW's Workforce Development Team and with external training providers where appropriate. Supporting programme staff as they work through and achieve national diplomas in health screening, and qualifications in specialised areas of diabetic eye screening will also be a key requirement
