Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to appoint a 2 Fixed Term Information Officers in the Health Protection Division in Public Health Wales NHS Trust.

The post holder will work within the Vaccine Preventable Disease Programme (VPDP) and with the Communicable Disease Surveillance Centre to help support the surveillance of vaccine preventable diseases and respiratory infections.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will assist with managing sentinel surveillance networks, data collection, data analysis and quality assurance, producing routine reports, communicating with stakeholders and assisting other surveillance tasks within the team. This post provides the opportunity to work with key stakeholders and gain experience working on a variety of projects across Health Protection.

The post is based at Number 2 Capital Quarter, in central Cardiff. For this position, the successful candidate must have GCSEs in English and Maths and an A level in a scientific subject is desirable. They should have excellent attention to detail and experience in using Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word. We are looking for a team player, with excellent organisation and communication skills, who can demonstrate a flexible approach in orderto meet the needs of the team.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will be a member of the VPDP team with the following responsibilities:

  • Supporting the management of sentinel surveillance networks for acute respiratory infections. Supporting the analytical and reporting needs of the programme.
  • Acting as a point of contact for surveillance network stakeholders, sentinel surveillance sites, information requests and queries, escalating to other team members as appropriate.
  • Maintaining simple databases, carrying out data input and cleansing as necessary.
  • Working with key stakeholders, managing data collection, collating and cleansing for specified discrete projects.
  • Processing data in a robust, consistent and accurate manner to meet needs of the team.
  • Assisting in producing routine reports, generating routine tables and figures, performing data checks and formatting routine documents and communications.

  • Inputting and process data and information in accordance with specified procedures.
