Job summary

This is an exciting and pivotal senior leadership position leading the strategic vision and implementation of our growing Health Economics and Modelling team. The role is based within our WHO Collaboration Centre for Investment in Health and Well-being, and as such, you will work closely with the WHO, national and international partners, shaping the health economics agenda in Wales and beyond, shifting investment towards prevention.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will lead the strategic development, implementation and operational management of our Health Economics and Modelling unit. You will work across Public Health Wales to develop our health economics capacity, identifying areas of research, and providing guidance and support to the wider organisation. You will work with partners externally to make the case for investment in public health.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Essential

  • Educated or equivalent senior management experience to relevant Masters Degree level; specifically in health economics
  • Highly developed analytical knowledge acquired through academic qualifications and experience to Masters level or equivalent level experience, with additional specialist knowledge in Health Economics and Modelling

Experience

Essential

  • Significant experience of working at senior level within a public health/NHS setting
  • Significant experience of conducting complex health economics analysis
  • Experience of using specialist analytical and data management software (e.g. R, , SPSS, etc)
  • Experience of communicating complex health economics and modelling data/research to a range of audiences
  • Experience of drafting health economics project proposals and briefings
  • Demonstrable success in leading, motivating and developing teams
  • Demonstrable track record of innovative and lateral thinking
  • Demonstrable experience of influence at all levels and evidence of being a strategic thinker
  • Experience of delivering technically excellent solutions in challenging timescales or with competing priorities

  • Able to structure problems and draw out customer requirements from conflicting and partial information
  • Fully proficient IT skills: advanced IT skills for the collection, manipulation, analysis and visualisation of data, using a range of ubiquitous software and open source languages.

  • Ability to negotiate with senior stakeholders on difficult and controversial issues
