permanent Band 7 Audiologist or Clinical Scientist to lead our Vestibular

We are looking for
an experienced Audiologist to lead our vestibular testing and rehabilitation
service, and line manage a team of Audiologists involved in this service. The
successful candidate will be able to fully utilise their excellent experience
in routine adult assessment and rehabilitation, or paediatric assessment and be
eligible for AHCS (RCCP) or HCPC registration. Opportunities are available in
other areas of Audiology including complex adults, tinnitus management and
paediatrics. Excellent clinical, communication and organisational skills are
essential.
Main duties of the job
Working within a large and vibrant team of
Audiologists, Clinical Scientists, Clinical Assistants and Administration staff, the post holder will be responsible for
leading, monitoring and developing the Vestibular Audiology service, including
coordinating with the Audiovestibular medicine (AVM) team. This post involves undertaking vestibular
assessment and rehabilitation with adult patients in Hampshire, working
primarily at Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth, with opportunities to work
at both acute and community based sites in the surrounding area. This role involves
seeing other patient groups, which may include paediatric assessment and adult
rehabilitation. and assisting with the training and support of our STP trainees.
The post holder will have responsibility for direct line management of staff.

1.
Independent clinical testing, decision
making and reporting for vestibular assessment and rehabilitation patients.
2.
Independent clinical testing,
decision making and reporting for adult assessment and rehabilitation patients
including fitting and verifying hearing aids, and appropriate onward referral.
Opportunities are available in Paediatric Audiology services if desired.
3.
Day to day management of relevant
clinical and administrative functions of the Portsmouth Audiology Service,
ensuring the Audiology service maintains the highest possible standards of care,
and clinical and management decisions are effectively communicated throughout
the audiology service.
4.
Overall patient management including
liaison with other professions including ENT, AVM, paediatrics, health
visitors, GPs, Education and Social Services.
5.
Timely and effective response to
telephone, postal and email enquiries from professionals and patients.
6.
Teaching and supervision of trainee
or allied clinical staff, including STP,
PTP, MSc, HTS and medical students, medical staff, nurses, under the direction
of the Training Lead.
7.
Training
and induction of new positions and identify training needs of existing staff
members.
8.
Line
management including involvement in the staff appraisal process.
9.
Monitor
and quality control all aspect of departments vestibular assessment and
management including maintenance of equipment calibration and performance.
10. Provide appropriate professional advice and to make
recommendations to the Head of Service regarding concerns or service
development needs. Ensure the highest possible standard of service including
contributing to service review and development.
11. Participate in
department research and audit, and evaluate new equipment and new test
protocols.
12. To establish and maintain protocols for vestibular
assessment and rehabilitation, in conjunction with the Department of Audio
Vestibular Medicine and in line with national guidelines and standards, prior
to national inspection as part of the IQIPS process.
