Job summary
We have an opportunity for two further clinical fellow posts in urology. The level of training available can be tailored from pre-registrar/ST3 to senior trainee/post CCT level. Appointments are for a 1 year fixed term period in the first instance with the possibility of a further 12 month extension.
At the more junior level, we can offer a wide variety of core/general urology and opportunities to learn/ gain confidence in diagnostic procedures such as transperineal prostate biopsies (including local anaesthetic and GA formal fusion biopsies), flexible cystoscopy including laser treatment of bladder tumours, and urodynamics, whilst gaining good exposure to a wide variety of emergency urology. In addition, time will be spent in theatre developing expertise in core urology procedures (including cystoscopy, TURBT, TURP and ureteroscopy) and if desired, bedside assisting for gaining early exposure to robotic surgery early in your career.
A more senior candidate would benefit from more complex operating; including laparoscopic nephrectomy and pyeloplasty, LDR Prostate brachytherapy, robotic prostatectomy, robotic cystectomy, robotic partial nephrectomy, robotic nephro-ureterectomy and robotic ureteric implantation as well as multidisciplinary work with gynaecology (including a tertiary endometriosis unit). We have a high volume of complex stone work including flexible ureterorenoscopy, PCNL and newly installed onsite lithotripter.
Main duties of the job
The post would suit candidates who have completed basic/core surgical training and who wish to pursue a career in urology (with a view to applying for NTN training), or more senior trainees looking for sub-specialist training. The successful candidate would take part in the 1:8/9 middle grade on call rota, which is currently a 24 hour on call system (nights being non-resident). The duties of the successful candidate would include undertaking the daily ward round with direct consultant supervision (when on call or on ward cover), supervised clinics, endoscopy and theatre sessions with consultant supervision/training. There are also opportunities for independent lists and clinics where appropriate. Participation in audit, research and education (teaching medical students and formal teaching of foundation doctors) is strongly encouraged and supported.
