with satellite clinics held on the Isle of Wight and in Southampton.

Main duties of the job
We aim to recruit an enthusiastic and proactive Consultant
Orthodontist, who is keen to work with colleagues to provide a high standard of
clinical care for our orthodontic patients.
The postholder will run outpatient clinics and be expected to liaise
with colleagues in maxillofacial surgery, restorative, special care and paediatric
dentistry for the delivery of care in multidisciplinary cases.
The postholder will take an active role in the
teaching and training of junior staff, and develop close links with General Dental
Practitioners and Specialist Orthodontic Practitioners operating in the area.
The Orthodontic Department is based within the Maxillofacial Unit, and managed
within the Head and Neck Care Group, which comprises the Departments of: ENT
and Audio-Vestibular Medicine, Audiology, Maxillo-Facial Surgery, and Ophthalmology.
The Maxillofacial Unit has a team of specialists providing orthodontics, oral
surgery and restorative dentistry as part of dental and surgical MDT care. We are currently transitioning into the digital world with our
Maxillofacial laboratory recently refurbished to allow for a digital workflow.
The department is arranged as a modern 4 chair polyclinic with an additional 2
chairs in separate rooms. It has digital radiographic support using the Sectra
system, with Cone Beam CT facilities available within the dental radiology
suite.

are looking for an enthusiastic and proactive individual who is keen to work
with colleagues to support the special interests of the department.
The appointee for this Consultant post will be based
at Queen Alexandra Hospital Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust with commitment to
providing service to Southampton clinics.
You will join a multidisciplinary team within the Head
and Neck Directorate and will be expected to be involved in treatments
requiring an inter-disciplinary team approach.
There is an established Local Orthodontic Clinical
Network for Hampshire and Isle of Wight and a number of orthodontic specialist
practices in the local area.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide
a high standard of clinical care for orthodontic patients requiring complex
multidisciplinary treatment.
Be
expected to liaise with colleagues in maxillofacial surgery, restorative,

a continuous commitment for the care of patients and ensure that acceptable
arrangements are made for leave and off duty periods.
Promote
high professional standards of clinical care for patients, both through direct

close links with General Dental Practitioners and Specialist orthodontic
practitioners operating in the area.
Provide
consultant advice to general dental practitioners, community dental officers
and to medical practitioners as well as specialist orthodontic practitioners
who work in Primary care.
Provide
second opinions at the request of a dental or medical practitioner, specialist
or consultant colleague as well as the Commissioning bodies.
Undertake
administrative duties involved with the care of his/her patients.
Conduct
audits of clinical practice and engage in clinical peer review.
To
be actively involved and give advice to many committees including Local
Professional Networks, Managed Clinical Networks, Local Orthodontic and Dental
Committees where they will engage in discussions with representatives from all
orthodontic providers.
To
provide advice to employing trusts on the specification and contracts for
orthodontic services drawn up by commissioners.
To
