Job summary

Finalists for the Preceptorship Programme of the Year, Nursing Times Awards (2022). We are excited to be able to open applications for newly qualified midwives who are enthusiastic to continue their professional development, consolidating skills and knowledge acquired throughout their degree training.

As a preceptee, you will be well supported by our dedicated preceptorship clinical skills facilitators, whilst undertaking a robust preceptorship programme encompassing clinical and pastoral support. You will receive a period of supernumerary time when you start your role and protected time throughout the programme to attend bespoke training opportunities.

Within our highly skilled and multi-disciplined Maternity Service at Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust, we offer opportunities across both our hospital and community-based maternity settings and can discuss your preferred working areas at interview.

Job responsibilities

  • To consolidate midwifery training and develop in depth knowledge of midwifery practice.
  • To maintain high standards of midwifery care at all times.
  • To acquire additional competencies to fulfil the role of the midwife providing total care to women and progress to a band 6 midwife.
  • To be responsible for delivering and maintaining a high standard of day to day evidence-based practice for all women in the designated clinical area.
