Job summary
The dedicated and enthusiastic paediatric
team at Queen Alexandra Hospital is looking to appoint a locum consultant in
General Paediatrics, preferably with a
special interest in diabetes and endocrinology, to work in our busy childrens
unit from September 2022. This is a replacement post and the successful applicant
will work closely with other consultant colleagues and a team of specialist
nurses and dieticians to deliver care for the children of Portsmouth. They will
be part of the general paediatric team comprising eighteen paediatricians who provide acute and
outpatient general paediatric services.
Successful applicants should be
fully registered with the GMC and have a CCT in general paediatrics. Experience
in diabetes and endocrinology is preferable.
Main duties of the job
This is a locum 10PA post in general paediatrics,
preferably with a special interest in Diabetes and endocrinology . However, part time applicants are
welcome. Applicants should have a CCT in general paediatrics (or equivalent). The
post is 12 month locum.
The successful appointee will join a motivated and
supportive team of consultants who work a six week cycle of hot weeks to
provide the consistent delivery of acute paediatric services and cover for the
inpatient wards. Out-patient services and on-call cover to the childrens unit
and the paediatric Emergency Department are also incorporated. Resident evening
working is part of job plans whilst overnight on-call is non-resident.
The paediatric diabetes team is responsible for
approx. 320 children and young people with diabetes in the Portsmouth area. The
team consists of 4 consultants, 5 PDSNs, a dietician and a psychologist. We
have a dedicated clinic nurse and administrator. We are compliant with BPT and
our average control is good. We run an insulin pump service. We are a supportive
cohesive team with weekly MDT meetings who strive to provide the best service
for our local population
The department has responsibility for all children
admitted to the Trust and so, when on call, the general paediatricians may be
required to see children in ED, on the childrens surgical ward, or on ITU.
Occasional Safeguarding work may arise out of hours, and the post holder will
be expected to follow local guidelines.
