Job summary

We are looking for a Sleep Physiologist / Allied Health Professional to become part of our expanding Sleep Team. We have established a satellite service in the new Community Diagnostic Centre at Rodney Road and this role would enable the right person to undergo training to become a Band 5 Sleep Physiologist supporting both the CDC and our main centre at QA.

We are a lively multidisciplinary team consisting of doctors, nurses, physiologists, a polysomnographer, technicians and clerical staff and we are looking to recruit a Trainee Band 5 who will benefit from first class training and mentorship.

You must be able to undertake practical and academic training, be flexible and adaptable in your attitude to work and enjoy being part of a very busy service, where once trained, you can demonstrate your initiative and reliability. You will also be provided with training to develop your leadership and management skills.

Main duties of the job

Our service offers a comprehensive range of sleep assessments including: overnight pulse oximetry, domiciliary polygraphy studies, full polysomnography, multiple sleep latency testing and maintenance of wakefulness tests. We also offer student training and provide training to other PHT employees at various levels.

The role will involve over time becoming an autonomous practitioner in sleep study analysis, CPAP set ups, CPAP compliance monitoring, patient follow up, and CPAP troubleshooting. You will also become an active participant in multidisciplinary team meetings, as well as engaging in team audits and education.

We will fully support you on your journey and you will benefit from a mixture of training opportunities, ranging from formal courses, to learning in the role working with our highly experienced senior team members.

  • To work as an autonomous practitioner involved in the diagnosis, treatment and on-going support of patients with obstructive sleep apnoea.
  • As an autonomous practitioner provide a point of contact for these patients as well as their carers and other health care professionals to obtain advice, education and support.

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical/Professional

  • Work autonomously with the assistance of protocols to practice in an effective nurse/physiology led sleep service.
  • Provide a supportive environment for patients and their partners with sleep disorders.
  • Ensure effective communication occurs between health professionals to promote patient care.
  • Run CPAP set up clinics, follow up clinics and troubleshoot clinics.
