Job summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly-motivated individual to join our successful Research and Innovation Department, working as a Specialist Research Nurse on the departmental centralised portfolio, but with a particular interest in Surgery and Orthopaedics. This is an exciting opportunity to work closely with world renowned Consultants, leading the delivery of studies that will impact the future of the care provided to patients within Portsmouth Hospitals and around the globe. Portsmouth Hospital University Trust is at the forefront of Robotic surgery and the research we do feeds into the growing evidence for future developments in this technology. The successful candidate will ideally have experience in Surgery and/or Orthopaedics and clinical research as well as a leadership accreditation. The post holder will be responsible for leading the day to day running of high quality Commercial and NIHR (National Institute of Health Research) portfolio studies and will be expected to contribute to all aspects of trial development and delivery at Portsmouth Hospitals University Trust. This post will see you working within the Surgery and Orthopaedic research team, as well as supporting colleagues deliver Trust wide studies across a variety of specialities.
The successful candidate will lead on a large portfolio of clinical trials both sponsored and hosted, commercial and non-commercial.

Main duties of the job
We are looking for someone with sound Surgery and/or Orthopaedic knowledge, with excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills, whilst possessing a keen eye for detail. Previous line management experience and leadership skills are essential to support both team and portfolio development, as is an ability to work independently and flexibly. The successful applicant will need to be enthusiastic and ready to work actively to support recruiting patients in line with NIHR targets. There may be times when you will be asked to support other areas to achieve these targets.
The post holder will be supported by the senior research nurses as well as the research support team and this role is ideal for a highly motivated nurse who is keen to further develop their experience in clinical research nursing and help shape the future of health care. The post holder will work in close collaboration with the Research department , Principal Investigators and research support staff, to ensure compliance with Trust Policy, Good Clinical Practice (GCP), Human Tissue Act (HTA), and trial specific protocols.
