Job summary
The department has the
benefit of cutting edge CT and MRI technology and provides staff with the
exciting opportunity to work with the latest Toshiba Aquilion One CT scanner
and 3T MRI technology in a clinical setting. The department is equipped with 4
CT scanners and 3 MRI scanners with all staff encouraged to rotate through both
modalities once at band 6 level. We also currently have a 5th temporary CT scanner and 4th
temporary MRI scanner.
We are a busy, progressive unit, with a very friendly and caring
atmosphere and wecurrently have vacancies
for enthusiastic, driven and motivated band 5 radiographers with a keen interest
to specialise in CT scanning to join our team in a training position with a
view to meeting competencies to allow the successful candidate to apply for
future band 6 positions which then opens routes in to MRI training.
Main duties of the job
-
To conduct a wide range of CT scans upon a
range of patient types, both as an autonomous practitioner and as part of a multi-professional
team, in a manner that meets profession, departmental and legal standards and
requirements.

To learn and understand the fundamentals of MRI
safety.
-
To proactively assist in the management of the
MRI and CT scanning departments on a daily basis whilst fostering a safe and
efficient environment for patients, staff and visitors.
-
To supervise, and teach student radiographers
and RDAs and to actively help, teach and support training SPRs.
-
Ensure patient safety is maintained and patient
experience is positive by treating all patients, relatives and colleagues with
respect, dignity and courtesy in accordance with Trust values.

Clinical/Operational

To
co-ordinate effectively with the senior radiographers to ensure effective
learning.

To learn and gain the skills and knowledge of all
aspects of CT and MRI, to become full competency in all aspects of general and
specialised CT and the basics of MRI scanning, and to manage their own
workload.
-
To carry
out all aspects of general and specialised CT and basic, limited MRI scanning, under
the supervision of band 6 and band 7 radiographers.
-
To check
completed scans against accepted diagnostic standards, including patients
details and to act appropriately according to the findings.
-
Ensure
all systems processes are completed accurately and appropriately.
-
To undertake CT scans in the absence of a
radiologist according to agreed protocols under the supervision of a band 6 or
band 7 radiographer.

To undertake cannulations without supervision after
training ensuring a patient allergy history is always obtained.
-
To be
able to relate to all manner of patients with understanding and care,
respecting their privacy and dignity to provide a caring and confidential
service. To ensure that a positive identification
is obtained from all patients prior to their examination.

To
participate in the night shift rota covering CT scanning.

Be
responsible for the consumable stock control necessary to support designated
clinical areas, within the agreed financial limits.

Deal
with complaints and grievances from staff and patients within the department.

optimal, accurate and correct use of PACS and other associated digital

and take appropriate action where necessary/possible, to deal with all undue
events with a potentially adverse outcome in keeping with the Department and
