Job summary
To provide support to the DigiMeds team to achieve department
priorities and targets on a designated ward or group of wards as decided by the
Lead Pharmacist for DigiMeds and Systems manager. To act as a senior pharmacist,
deputising for the Lead Pharmacist within this designated division/ directorate and to
providing specialist advice and recommendations on solutions to system issues.

Job responsibilities
- To work with the Digital Medicines Lead Pharmacist and the Digital Medicines team on implementing and optimising the EPMA system across the Trust.
- To work closely with stakeholders to ensure that the solution delivers the strategic and operational goals of the Trust, which includes patient safety, patient experience, quality of care, efficient use of staff resources, and cost-effective prescribing.
- To act as a link for Pharmacy with: IT, Medical, and Nursing departments to translate clinical needs into IT requirements for Digital Medicines.
- To act as a role model for practising Pharmacists to ensure that EPMA activities are in context of contemporary clinical work.
- Deputise for the Digital Medicines Lead Pharmacist as appropriate.
- To develop and deploy Digital Medicines technology-enabled process changes.
- To provide expert advice on pharmaceutical matters related to EPMA, undertaking risk management, and ensuring compliance with national medicines legislation as well as relevant local policies.
- Participate in internal shift work (with 2nd on-call component) when required during the implementation period.
Specific Core Functions
- To work closely with the Digital Medicines Lead Pharmacist and the Digital Medicines team to develop, deliver, and optimise the EPMA system across the Trust.
- Work closely with the Digital Medicines Lead Pharmacist to ensure the safe and effective implementation of an EPMA system that is clinically fit for purpose.
- Manage the configuration of the EPMA system to meet the informational needs of clinical, operational, and wider Trust teams.
- Work with the Digital Medicines team to manage the build of drug files, formulae, and algorithms within the EPMA system, utilising clinical pharmacy knowledge to ensure its safe and effective use. Digitalise existing paper protocols into electronic protocols within the system and assist in managing the workload of the team with regards to the system build.
- Support the establishment of the staff database and user roles on the EPMA system, ensuring patient data are always kept confidential.
- Support Data Analysts with the design and creation of EPMA system reports. Working with clinical groups in their approval and management post implementation.
- Supervise the Data Analyst as required in the development of ad-hoc operational reports.
- Deliver the EPMA agenda and champion its development and implementation, promoting its benefits and motivating other staff to utilize the system effectively and confidently.
- Develop policies and SOPs related to EPMA and its management across the Trust, aiding in its proper and effective use.
- To act as a point of contact for all users of the EPMA system, providing support and advice on how to complete tasks.
- Work with the Digital Medicines team to co-ordinate staff training in the use of EPMA during the implementation and manage this post implementation as part of business-as-usual (BAU).
- Participate in clinical governance by contributing to the investigation of complaints, incidents, and errors raised on the trusts DATIX system (particularly in relation to the use of EPMA).
- When appropriate during the rollout/implementation period, participate in shift work and facilitate out-of-hours pharmacy support in relation to the EPMA system.
- When required, to manage the EPMA team in tasks appropriate to their role.

- Liaise with staff in clinical specialities to ensure safety for vulnerable patient groups including those with co-morbidities that may affect medicine use for: paediatric, pregnancy, breastfeeding, elderly, renal and hepatic impairment patients.
- Actively engage with clinical staff by floor-walking before, during, and after go-live.
- Manage the patient safety and operational risks relating to the EPMA project and report these to the EPMA Steering Group and Trust CSO / MSO securing a fit-for-purpose outcome.
