Job summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic Occupational Therapist to work in our Acute Neuro Team, which is a multi-disciplinary team working across the hospital site to deliver a skilled and responsive neuro therapy service to patients with a wide diversity of neurological conditions such as Guillain-Barre Syndrome, Traumatic Brain Injury, MS and encephalopathy.
You will need to work independently as well as with other members of the MDT, in order to provide a patient-centred service, working to identify holistic short and long term goals, and rehabilitation plans.
You will be supported by a highly skilled Clinical Specialist OT who is trained in a range of neurological approaches to treatment. You will have regular supervision from her and will participate in regular inservice training as well as having access to external courses. We will actively help you to pursue your career aspirations within neuro OT in all four pillars of practice and truly cementing a love of neurological Occupational Therapy with a group of like-minded peers.
Main duties of the job
You will be assessing and treating patients with a new neurological event, on mainly medical and trauma wards, working closely with your physiotherapy and nursing colleagues to provide an integrated service. You will help to determine patients pathways through inpatient rehab or community options and will be involved in early rehab on the wards.
You will be part of a dynamic team working together to provide the best possible outcomes for acute neurological patients. You will regularly use your OT skills in a wide variety of assessment and interventions such as cognition, vision, upper limb, functional activities, equipment provision and fatigue management.
We can offer you regular structured supervision with our most experienced team members to ensure both your clinical development needs and leadership aspirations are a focus. You will be encouraged to participate in regular neuro therapy and OT inservice training as well as having access to external courses. You will also be supported and encouraged to gain key B6 management and leadership skills by participating in PHUs Leadership Essentials training which will develop your skills in the supervision of Band 5s, techs and students, appraisal, education and service development projects.
The post is part-time for 26 hours a week and we pride ourselves on our attitude to flexible working.
