We are recruiting! Here at Portsmouth Hospital University NHS Trust, our fantastic Pharmacy team are recruiting. On top of this, our Pharmacy Dispensary team are expanding and have just moved into brand-new state of the art premises based on the QA Hospital site.

The role will be leading the Pharmacy Distribution and Stores service, as well as supporting training for Pharmacy staff.

It is a truly perfect opportunity for a dynamic pharmacy technician with a NVQ Level 3 Pharmacy Services qualification; with recognized underpinning knowledge qualification or General Pharmaceutical Council recognized equivalent e.g., BTEC Pharmaceutical Sciences and a Registered Pharmacy Technician status, with at least 2 years worth of experience at Band 5. Also required will be a ACPT qualification, In post you will be able to make a significant difference and have a positive impact for patients at PHUT, working within a highly committed team delivering a fantastic service.

Main duties of the job

Operational management of Section, providing services with significant responsibility and autonomy, including aspects that are complex and/or non-routine.

Current areas of responsibility are as follows:-

1. Dispensary Inpatient Lead - Operational

2. Dispensary Inpatient Lead Governance and Clinics

3. Dispensary Inpatient Lead Controlled Drugs, Automation and Theatres

4. Distribution and Stores Lead

5. Technician Training Lead

Job description

Job responsibilities

  1. Be responsible to lead, manage and organise technical and support staff providing either ward or dispensary based services. Ensuring to prioritise and schedule workload so all deadlines are met in accordance with associated service monitors and work instructions.
  2. Contribute to the recruitment of staff and works with the Dispensary & Distributions Operations Manager in deploying technical staff either in the dispensary or on the wards to ensure their efficient deployment to meet service and staff development needs.
  3. Support and assist Dispensary & Distributions Operations Manager and other senior staff to develop and maintain quality management systems for the technical aspects of the service including preparation, review and auditing of work instructions, quality monitoring, investigating complaints and reporting to pharmacy management.
  4. Contribute to the creation, design and maintenance of work instructions within area of responsibility ensuring safe systems of work and compliance with Health and Safety at Work Act and NHS Guidance.
  5. Support and assist the Dispensary & Distributions Operations Manager and other senior staff to develop and maintain Technical Training competency based training packages and monitoring systems for Pre-registration pharmacy graduates, Technicians, and assistants within area of responsibility.
  6. Provide staff training to and development of Pre-registration pharmacy graduates, technicians, and assistants using competency based training packages and able to support and assess said staff trained by others.
  7. Undertake and record formal and informal performance appraisal and review of staff. Set clear objectives to meet the needs of the service and organisation ensuring staff development issues are identified and addressed.
  8. Work with the ward based teams to agree ward stock lists and stock levels in conjunction with the ward pharmacist, resolves service provision problems and implements the provision of new services for new wards and departments.
  9. Market services by liaising with key customers to establish needs, costing and promoting service developments and contributing to service level agreements.
  10. Maintain competencies of previously accredited packages whilst contributing to the supervision of pharmacy technical workforce, providing help and advice to staff at all levels by analysing and responding to problem situations.
  11. Contribute to the pharmacy technician workforce through participation in weekend and bank holiday working.
  12. Contribute to the development of efficient processes within the pharmacy services.
  13. Contribute to good pharmaceutical stock control including coordinating stock checks, checks for short dated products, and the medicines return scheme.
  14. Participate in recognised national or internal training packages as identified through appraisal to meet the needs of the service.
  15. Undertakes Trust essential training in accordance to Trust timetables.
