The Wessex Kidney Centre (WKC) at Queen Alexandra Hospital is a regional renal and transplant centre, looking after more than 1,500 patients on renal replacement therapy (transplant, haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis) and performing around 100 kidney transplants a year.

We are a highly skilled multidisciplinary team, with expertise across a range of subspecialties.

There is now an exciting opportunity to lead a dynamic specialist team in developing the service providing specialist, individual care to patients and their carers throughout the transplant process.

This is a challenging and rewarding post where you will be given every opportunity to develop your potential. You will be expected to provide leadership in the management of all aspects of transplantation working in partnership with the MDT team (including Renal Consultants & Transplant Surgeons ,Theatres, Critical Care & Surgical Teams, NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT), Administration, Governance, and Quality Teams, external satellite dialysis units, regional transplant centres and vasculitis & CKD specialists). this post is a key leadership role to support service delivery and growth, staff development, and ensure the delivery of excellent patient care.

The post holder will have an advanced level of knowledge and expertise and provide leadership in the management of all aspects of transplantation working in partnership with the clinical leads and senior nursing team.Additionally, the post-holder will have arolein coordinating the Vasculitis Service and Virtual Chronic Kidney Disease (vCKD) Service, but these responsibilities will be supplementary to the primary transplant coordination role.The post-holder will also perform nurse-led clinics for the transplant service, guiding the team and service towards a more nurse-led model of care.

The post holder will provide clear focus for clinical leadership within the service. They will be highly visible and responsible for ensuring the delivery of high quality of care.

To be responsible for writing, implementing and evaluating clinical guidelines, promoting practice developments within the clinical governance framework to ensure local and national objectives are achieved.

They will be responsible for coordinating care, monitoring the quality of care and ensuring the needs of pre transplant, waiting list and post-transplant patients are always at the centre of that care. A proportion of time will be spent working clinically.

They will provide professional leadership and management to the defined team of transplant co-ordinators, demonstrating a supportive and flexible leadership approach and a proactive, responsible attitude so as to promote confidence in the team and the service. You will be required to explore current practice, identifying areas for development, and plan the appropriate change using research and experience to evaluate the outcomes.
