Main duties of the job
As a Maxillofacial Prosthetist, you will play a crucial role in the design and manufacture of custom made prosthetics and dental devices. You will work with a variety of specialists across multiple disciplines, including Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Orthodontics, Restorative Dentistry, Oncology, and more.

Job responsibilities
- Design and fabricate highly complex maxillofacial prosthetic devices and specialist dental appliances, including deep buried implants and CAD/CAM services.
- Provide technical support for patient rehabilitation across a wide range of specialties, including maxillofacial surgery, oral surgery, orthodontics, restorative dentistry, ENT, ophthalmology, and general surgery.
- Offer immediate emergency technical assistance during working hours.
- Work independently and with clinical teams to ensure the highest standards of patient care and service.
- Develop and enhance 3D printing services, contributing to the development of innovative solutions in the laboratory.
- Assist in the training and development of junior staff and clinical teams.
- Adhere to Trust Health and Safety guidelines and regulations, ensuring a safe working environment for all staff and patients.
- Maintain accurate patient records and participate in laboratory audits.
- Manage stock control and ensure the proper upkeep of laboratory equipment.
Key Requirements:
- Experience in facial and body prosthetics, orthognathic surgery, and 3D printing.
- Knowledge and experience in implant work.
- Strong technical skills in CAD/CAM systems.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Commitment to professional development and continuous learning.
- Understanding of relevant medical device directives and health and safety regulations.
The Maxillofacial Unit at Queen Alexandra Hospital offers specialised services across maxillofacial surgery, orthodontics, oral surgery, and restorative dentistry. Our department includes a well established laboratory with highly skilled technicians who provide support for complex patient rehabilitation. We are also expanding our services to include innovative technologies like 3D printing and model scanning.
The role will primarily support the Maxillofacial team, including five Consultant led services, with additional responsibilities for the Orthodontic and Restorative teams.

- Dental Technology BSc (Hons) or equivalent plus two years vocational training at accredited unit.
- Registered with General Dental Council
- Registered with the IMPT (at least as an associate member)Plus one of the following:
- MSc Clinical Science (Reconstructive Science)
- MSc Maxillofacial and Craniofacial Technology
- Professional Diploma in Maxillofacial Prosthetics & Technology
Experience

- To provide a high quality maxillofacial laboratory service for all of the OMF & Orthodontics service users. This will include but not limited to:
