Senior Physiotherapist - Rotational Stroke and Neurology

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work as a Rotational Senior Physiotherapist across our Stroke and Neurology Teams; Hyper-acute/Acute Stroke, Acute Neurology, Stroke and Neurological inpatient Rehabilitation (Lotus Rehabilitation Centre), Community Stroke Rehabilitation and Community Neurology/Outpatient Neurology Therapy.

You will workwith a variety of patients after stroke and neurological conditions. Each rotation is approximately 12 months long.

Main duties of the job

This is an excellent opportunity to develop your skills and knowledge within a varied neurological and stroke caseload with exposure to acute, inpatient and community rehabilitation settings.

The Acute Neuro Team specialise in delivering specialist multidisciplinary assessment and therapeutic management to Acute Neurological patients across the hospital, including within our critical care unit, orthopaedic and medical wards.

The Hyper-Acute and Acute Stroke ward (F4)is a 32 bedded inpatient unit, with 12 Hyper-acute level beds. The multidisciplinary team deliver assessment, management and rehabilitation to patients in the early phases post-stroke.

Lotus Rehabilitation Centre is a 26 bedded inpatient rehabilitation unit providing specialist multidisciplinary rehabilitation for adults with stroke or complex neurological needs. 13 of these beds are NHS England Level 2a Rehabilitation beds.

Community Stroke Rehabilitation Team (CSRT) deliver an early supported discharge service for our patients post-stroke. The multidisciplinary team provide rehabilitation in the patient's own home/wider community to maximise their independence post-stroke.

The Community and Outpatient Neurological Service provide assessment, management and therapeutic treatment to patients with new or ongoing neurological conditions in an outpatient clinic and community settings.

  • Conduct comprehensive neurological assessments and develop comprehensive treatment plans to enable patients to progress their physical ability.
  • Participate in discharge planning, including complex discharges and liaising with community services to ensure safe and effective transitions of care.
  • To have strong clinical reasoning skills with the ability to manage a caseload independently.
  • To have the ability to adapt to different clinical areas within stroke and neurology, whilst managing the challenges of working in a busy hospital environment.
  • Support and supervise Band 5s and unregistered staff, and students.
  • Contribute to service development initiatives, audits, and quality improvement projects.
  • Demonstrate commitment to professional development and evidence-based practice.

You will be supervised and supported through each rotation by a Team Lead Therapist. This will include regular supervision, 1:1 clinical supervision patient sessions and individualised training. There are also many opportunities for joint MDT working.

The position will have responsibility for junior staff and student supervision and participation in quality improvement projects and audits. Regular in-house training is provided, as well as peer support across the stroke and neurological pathway. There is also the opportunity to apply for specialist CPD external funding to further enhance and develop your skills within stroke and neurology.
