Were seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Head of Clinical Engineering & Medical Devices Safety Officer (MDSO) to lead our Clinical Engineering service. This is a pivotal role at the heart of our hospitals technology strategy, ensuring our medical devices are safe, effective, and future-ready.
Main duties of the job
Youll be responsible for:
- Shaping and delivering our Clinical Engineering strategy
- Leading a talented multidisciplinary team of engineers and technicians
- Driving innovation and digital transformation across the Trust
- Acting as the key liaison with MHRA, NHS England, and manufacturers on device safety
- Managing the full lifecycle of medical devices,from procurement to disposal

- A degree in Clinical, Biomedical, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering
- Senior management experience in Clinical Engineering or Medical Devices
- Strong knowledge of medical device legislation, governance, and risk management
- Excellent communication and influencing skills
- A passion for patient safety and service improvement
Desirable extras: Chartered Engineer status, PRINCE2 or project management qualifications, and experience with ISO 13485 or digital transformation initiatives.

- Chartered Engineer (CEng) or equivalent professional registration with the Engineering Council (via IHEEM, IET, or IMechE).

- Senior management experience within Clinical Engineering / Medical Devices or other relevant department in an acute hospital setting.
- Proven experience of managing budgets and delivering CIPs.
Desirable
- Experience in service redesign, digital transformation, or ISO 13485 accreditation.
- Experience working with regulatory bodies (MHRA, CQC).
