Main duties of the job

We are seeking a Learning and Development Manager Clinical (Apprenticeships)to lead the planning, promotion, and delivery of education and clinical apprenticeship opportunities across Isle of Wight NHS Trust and Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust. You will work collaboratively with key stakeholders and partner education institutions to develop apprenticeship schemes and education programmes that align with both local and national workforce development priorities.

The creation of a single corporate service is essential for us to support our clinical and operational services, and our wider transformation programme.

The single corporate service is delivered across both organisation. You may be based at either IWT or PHU and individuals may be required to undertake business travel between sites. For leaders managing staff across multi-site locations, you will need to be visible and provide in person leadership. The arrangements and frequency will be agreed locally.

  • Manage the full lifecycle of apprenticeship and education opportunities, ensuring they meet organisational and workforce development needs.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across organisations and with external education partners to promote career development, apprenticeship programmes, and training initiatives.
  • Support the training needs analysis to tailor education offerings that support continuous professional development and workforce planning.
  • Lead and respond to trust-wide projects and initiatives, including patient safety programmes, to support teams and individuals in enhancing their clinical practice.
  • Support the procurement and ongoing management of apprenticeship contracts in partnership with the Head of Business and Finance, ensuring compliance and effective delivery.

  • BSc Degree in relevant field.
  • Evidence of recent CPD.
  • Relevant experience in education.

Desirable

  • Masters qualification.
  • Leadership and management

Experience

  • Evidence of teaching (formal/informal) experience.
  • Demonstrable experience with supporting and facilitating clinical apprenticeships with evidence of ongoing professional development
  • Experience of leading and managing a team.
  • Organisational skills and able to work as part of a team.

Desirable

  • Computer literate.
  • Practice supervisor/assessors course.

Knowledge

Essential

  • Knowledge of developing policy, guidelines and managing resources.
  • Understanding of apprenticeships, including local and national drivers, the apprenticeship levy and workforce requirements.
  • Knowledge of leading and work as a team, managing and motivating others.
  • Knowledge of influencing and negotiation skills, able to influence course leads and stakeholders.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills with ability to use initiative.
  • Good working knowledge of IT systems including Microsoft Office applications and web-based systems.
  • Highly numerate with good analytical skills requiring a high degree of concentration.
