Post CCT Fellow in Paediatrics
The closing date is 03 December 2025
Job summary
Portsmouth Hospitals University Trust is looking to appoint 2 Post CCT Fellow posts General Paediatrics to join its busy Paediatric department. Applicants should hold a certificate of completion of specialist training in Paediatrics or equivalent and be able to demonstrate enthusiasm and experience within the field of general paediatrics. This post does not contribute to the neonatal service which is staffed separately.
These posts have arisen due to retirement of 2 consultant colleagues from acute duties (on-call and service weeks).
The successful candidate will join a dedicated consultant team who provide general and specialist paediatric services to the population of Portsmouth and Southeast Hampshire. The post will be based at the Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth. The remit of the post holder is to provide general paediatric services. We have two 0.7 fte posts available but the exact level of commitment can be discussed with appointees. The timetable will be based on 0.7 fte commitment and will include participation in the general paediatric on-call rota, service weeks covering the inpatient wards, provision of some resident middle-grade nights and general paediatric outpatient clinics.
Queen Alexandra Hospital is a large district general hospital serving Portsmouth and the surrounding area. The paediatric department offers comprehensive general paediatric services with strong links to tertiary centres and subspecialty clinics.
Main duties of the job
This is a 0.7 fte post in general paediatrics. Applicants should have a CCT in general paediatrics (or equivalent).
The successful appointee will join a motivated and supportive team of consultants who work a six-week cycle of hot weeks to provide the consistent delivery of acute paediatric services and cover for the inpatient wards. Out-patient services and on-call cover to the Childrens Assessment unit (CAU) and the Childrens Emergency Department (CED) are also incorporated. Resident evening working is part of job plans whilst overnight consultant on-call is non-resident. It is anticipated that there will be some provision of resident middle-grade nights.
The department has responsibility for all children admitted to the Trust and so, when on call, the general paediatricians may be required to see children in CED, on the childrens surgical ward, or on ITU. Occasional Safeguarding work may arise out of hours, and the post holder will be expected to follow local guidelines.
