Our vision for Single Corporate
Services Isle of Wight NHS Trust (IWT) and Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS
Trust (PHU) have a shared vision of a single corporate service across our two

under joint leadership, to drive significant efficiencies, improve employee
experience, and return time to patient care.
This vacancy is part of the
Single Corporate Services Division.
Why are we changing the way we
deliver Corporate Services? Working as a partnership, both IWT and PHU have a
shared vision for excellence in care for our patients and communities; with a
set of strategic aims underpinning how we will achieve this. The creation of a
single corporate service is essential for us to support our clinical and
operational services, and our wider transformation programme.

The Research Office supports and
oversees a diverse portfolio of impactful research across almost all clinical
specialities at Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust. Without the Research
Office, studies would not open in an efficient and compliant way- meaning less
opportunity for patients to access new treatments or for patients and staff to
contribute to building knowledge and enhancing evidence-based care for the
conditions that matter to them. The office team supports the design, conduct,
analysis and ongoing safety/quality management of investigator led clinical
trials and studies, working in collaboration with other NHS Trusts as well as
commercial and academic partners. Consistently in the top few Large Acute
Trusts in terms of research participation, PHU has both scale and quality in
research with a desire to develop more to achieve the greatest possible impact.
About us
Overview of your organisation
The single corporate service is
delivered across both organisation. You may be based at either IWT or PHU and
individuals may be required to undertake business travel between sites. For
leaders managing staff across multi-site locations, you will need to be visible
and provide in person leadership. The arrangements and frequency will be agreed
locally.

The health and wellbeing of our
staff is at the forefront of everything we do. We are proud to be able to offer
our staff some fantastic benefits including our on-site Nursery, access to our
free Beach Hut for those long summer days, our on-site Wellness Centre
including a gym and a swimming pool, access to our fantastic staff networks
including LGBTQ, Race Equality and DisAbility, and awards ceremonies to
recognise your achievements. We believe we can offer support to all of our
staff when they need it the most.
We welcome the unique
contributions that you can bring in terms of your education, opinions, culture,
ethnicity, race, sex, gender identity and expression, nation of origin, age,

Job description
Job responsibilities
Ensuring the Research Office works as effectively and efficiently as
possible is vital in supporting the wider research work at PHU, the Research
Manager position is key in enabling this. This post will oversee the Portsmouth
Research Office function, supporting the Research & Development Manager
closely. The Research Manager provides operation oversight and leadership of
the Research Office, leading on quality reporting both in terms of study
progression and key performance indicators. The Research Manager will provide
leadership in terms of values and culture of Office team staff, enabling team
members to grow and problem solve independently- whilst ensuring compliance and
efficiency. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced clinical
research management professional to take on a position with the ability to make
a real impact and embed change.
This role also forms part of the research quality management system and
will help ensure and report on compliance, particularly in the development and
oversight of locally developed (sponsored) studies. The post holder will work
closely with the R&D Manager to make sure that the strategic direction of
the Office team aligns with the wider department and that team priorities
reflect this.
This is an excellent opportunity to work with, and lead, a friendly and
professional research office team who are keen to develop further.
The position is a substantive, full-time role, site based in Portsmouth
Hospitals Universities NHS Trust. However, as the Research Department is a
Single Corporate Service across PHU and IWT collaborative working is imperative
and as such occasional travel between sites is required. Equally this role
requires some travel for external meeting, with the opportunity for some
flexible working arrangements.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in a team looking to
grow and achieve the highest possible standards. We have a culture of teamwork,
continuous improvement and learning from everything we do.
Informal approaches, and visits, are strongly welcomed and encouraged.
Such approaches should be addressed to Joe Shoebridge, R&D Manager,
