Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a Clerical Officer to join our Haematology Oncology Department here at Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust. Excellent communication skills, a flexible approach, ability to meet tight deadlines and interact with a wide variety of patients and staff within the Trust is vital to this position. Working together and being part of a dedicated team is essential as ensuring the patient experience is paramount.

This post is demanding, challenging, and extremely rewarding and includes working on a rota system rotating between different areas to ensure both a variety of daily tasks for staff and to ensure staff are trained and able to work in all areas of our department.

Main duties of the job

  • Deliver a first-class service within our Haematology Oncology department. To be able to demonstrate administration support for Haematology Oncology Day Unit (HODU) including the scheduling team and HODU nursing team with all administration tasks.
  • Receiving at times 200 patients through the day unit in one day, seeing to patients, managing your own workload with the demands in the busy HODU department.
  • Excellent communication skills, a flexible approach, ability to meet tight deadlines and interact with a wide variety of patients and staff within the Trust is vital to this position.
  • Working together and being part of a dedicated team is essential as ensuring the patient experience is paramount.
  • This post is demanding, challenging, and extremely rewarding and includes working between the hours of 8am to 5pm to ensure daily tasks for the HODU staff are undertaken in a timely manner and to ensure smooth running of the department.
  • This post is 18 hours per week, and you will be required to work the occasional Saturday and Bank Holidays.

  • Wrist bands are kept up to date ready for all admissions.
  • Daily calls to patients due in for PICC insertions to provide care instructions.
  • Bookings of PICC appointments on Aria.
  • Printing of blood forms in readiness for patient treatment.
  • Answer the telephone and book appointments and answer queries as required.
  • Validating parking for HODU patients.
  • General Admin duties for HODU.
  • Ensure the needs of the service are always met and or issues escalated to your line manager timely.

Experience
