Main duties of the job
Contribute to the technical and scientific service provided by the Medical Physics Department. Specifically, to provide a flexible mix of treatment planning, quality control, support to theatre and workshop activities, and development projects, within the Radiotherapy Physics Section.

The radiotherapy department has four Varian Truebeam linacs, an Xstrahl kV unit, a Varian Bravos HDR unit, and LDR brachytherapy service. Planning is performed on a new RaySearch treatment planning system, with Diamond, PerFraction and Compass-Dolphin QC systems available.
The Radiotherapy Physics Section of the Portsmouth Medical Physics Department is a team we are proud of here at PHU. We are looking to appoint into the band 5 technician or dosimetrist tole to join the established, friendly and enthusiastic team of 22. The post is suitable for technicians, dosimetrists, or radiographers with prior experience, or motivated candidates with a physical science or engineering first degree and transferable work experience that want to develop their careers.The role provides a flexible mix of radiotherapy treatment planning using advanced software, quality control and dosimetry measurements, support to theatre and workshop activities, and where applicable, development projects.

- BSc. or equivalent NVQ in relevant science or engineering-based subject, including radiography, engineering and physics subjects.
Desirable
- Completion of relevant qualification (e.g. radiographer) or training scheme (medical physics technologist training)
- Completion of technologist training scheme
- MSc or significant equivalent specialist experience
- Evidence of leadership or managerial development
Experience
Desirable
- Relevant transferable work experience, in a clinical or technical environment
- Experience of supervising technical staff
