Do you want to be part of our small but dynamic team in our excellent Paediatric Outpatients Department?

We are looking for a keen, talented, reliable, and caring nursery nurse to cover maternity leave (34.5hrs a week) for one year.

Main duties of the job

A commitment to providing excellent care in line with trust valves and furthering your professional development is vital and core to our unit.

We care for children from 0 through to 18, with a variety of needs which will increase your knowledge and skills and keep you challenged.

You will be taught all the skills you will need including how to take blood from children of all ages as this is a huge part of our service and an excellent skill to achieve. We also work closely to support the Paediatric Consultants in an outpatient setting and see a wide variety of medical conditions in our clinic rooms.

We have practice educators, nurse specialists, play specialists who are all part of our team along with physiotherapists, dieticians, pharmacists and of course the medical team. Together we make an amazing team which is shown by our high levels of retention of staff.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • NVQ Level 3 in Childcare, Healthcare or NNEB qualification (or equivalent).
  • Numeracy and Literacy Skills at Level 1 or 2.

Experience

Essential

  • Previous relevant experience especially in the care of Children and Young People (0-18 years) and their families.

Desirable

  • Experience in the hospital setting
  • Previous paediatric or NICU experience in a speciality area
  • Clinical Support Worker Development Programme

Additional criteria

Essential

  • Effective written and verbal communication.
  • To undertake additional in-house training to support specialised clinics eg. Epi pen training, inhaler technique training.
  • Demonstrable clinical competence in an agreed range of competencies i.e. recording of observations
  • Ability to provide fundamental nursing care to an agreed standard plus undertake housekeeping duties.
  • Basic IT skills or prepared to undertake training in Trust.
  • Ability to work as an effective team member.
  • Ability to support Registered Nurse.
  • Working knowledge of clerical procedures.
  • Willing to participate in the Trust Care Certificate Training.

  • Knowledge of Child development and play in children aged 0-18 years.
  • Understanding the needs of a child in a hospital setting.
  • Knowledge of how to measure (height & weight) children correctly.
  • Phlebotomy trained (training will be given if not)
