Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity to expand current skills and knowledge within a supportive team. The Lower GI team are looking for a motivated and skilled individual to join the current Nurse Practitioner team in a permanent full time position. The post holder will act as a support/resource for other nurses, junior doctor teams and Consultants.
Main duties of the job
The Role will involve the day to day management of all speciality patients, both emergency and elective on the ward and ward attender clinics. Work alongside the MDT providing organisation, mentorship and knowledge to support and develop the colorectal surgical service.

Job responsibilities
They will gain skills in preparing and leading the daily ward rounds alongside the Registrar/Consultant, facilitating prompt discharge of the Colorectal patients, ensuring patient flow and following up patients on discharge. They will continue to run Nurse led ward attender clinics and pre op assessment clinics, liaising/organising with clerical staff patient lists.
The Peri-operative care of colorectal patients (wound assessment, identification of surgical problems and complications) and the skills in Identifying the acute deterioration of patients with knowledge of early warning scores is essential. Acting as a support and teaching resource for other staff members is a fundamental part of the role.
The ability to trouble shoot and escalate concerns to Senior Colleagues is essential and acting as a Role model for Junior staff. Maintaining the safety for those in their care and advocating for the needs of the patients is paramount.

- RN (Adult) / RGN registration with NMC and any other relevant post registration qualifications
- Registered Prescribing Qualification with NMC / or willingness to undertake
- Educated to first degree or equivalent experience, with a view
- to working towards Masters Qualification

- Relevant Management or leadership course (eg LEO/RCN leadership course)
