Job summary

An opportunity for a 6 month fixed term or secondment opportunity in a Therapy Technician/Band 4 has arisen within the dynamic Urgent Care Therapy Team at Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth. This fantastic team works across the Emergency Department, Older Persons Same Day Emergency Care, Acute Medical Assessment Unit, including Short Stay Unit. Join this dynamic, fun and friendly team who have a truly integrated therapeutic approach with both Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy clinicians. We work in a fast past paced environment with everyday being different. We see a huge variety of patients ranging from those with frailty, neuro conditions, medical conditions and many more. You will need to have experience, or be willing to learn and support patients.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be based in Queen Alexandra Hospital Urgent Care Team. As a Therapy Technician you will be expected to work independently with patients and carry out delegated work by the qualified therapy staff to complete assessments and therapeutic interventions. Treat patients according to set treatment protocols monitoring patient progression making minor alterations to patient treatment programmes as required. Work unsupervised reporting back patient progress and informing physiotherapist of any problems. Be responsible for non-professional duties in the provision of therapy services within a designated clinical team. Monitor and order stock, mobility aids, equipment and supplies for department or team.

Essential

  • School education to GCSE level or equivalent to demonstrate literacy,
  • numerical and communication skills.
  • NVQ III in Diagnostic and Therapeutic Support or equivalent essential

Desirable

  • BSc (Hons) in Sports Therapy or Sports Science

Experience

Essential

  • Minimum of two years experience as Physio/OT Assistant or technician
  • working in related clinical field
  • Minimum of 2 years physiotherapy assistant/OT assistant within related
  • clinical area
  • Involvement in informal supervision and management of people.
  • Experience working as part of a team.
  • Approachable, sensitive to the needs of others.
  • Ability to recognise personal risk.
  • Able to participate in manual handling of patients and equipment where necessary.
  • Able to use phone, showing awareness of confidentiality.
  • Experience of liaising with other agencies.
  • Ability to handle stress/pressure of work.
  • Experience as an PT Assistant, providing evidence to meet the scope and authority
  • of the post.
  • Experience and evidence of working within the clinical area.
  • 4 year experience within health care / two of which must be in PT/OT
