Job summary

We are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to join our busy Pharmacy Homecare team, which currently manages homecare medicines services for over 9,500 patients. The Pharmacy Homecare Team has been operating in its current form for many years, and we need someone who can work calmly under pressure, prioritize work, and meet conflicting demands while using their initiative.

Main duties of the job

Your responsibilities will include managing the workflow of prescriptions coming through the team and creating purchase orders to ensure a continuous supply of patient medication. You will work closely with the lead technician(s) to take the service forward and maintain attention to detail and accuracy. To be successful in this role, you must have excellent organizational skills to manage your workload and the whole team.

You will also need good IT, communication, and interpersonal skills to work positively with other Healthcare Professionals. This role requires you to work effectively as part of the small pharmacy homecare team as well as part of the broader hospital pharmacy team. You will maintain your core skills through work with the wider Pharmacy Team, supporting the provision of a world-class pharmacy service. You will maintain effective relationships with clinical teams and third-party homecare providers, ensuring patients receive the best possible service. Birthdays are always special days with our homecare team.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  1. Using the pharmacy computer systems - Raise, print and despatch orders to Homecare Service Providers.
  2. Support and supervise all scanning and filling of Homecare paperwork is kept up to date with attention to detail.
  3. Work alongside Homecare providers and forge good relationships working with them to ensure prompt payment of medication.
  4. Support and assist the Lead Technician for Homecare and other senior staff to develop and maintain competency-based training packages within area of responsibility.
  5. To ensure that all urgent requests are dealt with promptly, with referral to the Pharmacy Homecare Technician Lead where appropriate.To manage an unpredictable workload effectively to ensure that monthly, quarterly and yearly report timetables are met.
  6. Provide staff training and using competency-based training packages.
  7. To carry out all duties in a professional manner with due regard to the sensitivity and confidentiality of the financial information.
  8. To answer the telephone to members of the public and healthcare professionals to take orders for homecare products.
  9. In all cases plan work to ensure that tasks are completed to departmental deadlines.
  10. Undertake any other ad hoc duties as required by the Lead Homecare Technician.
  11. To carry out all duties in a professional manner with due regard to the sensitivity and confidentiality of the financial and clinical information.
  12. Contribute to the pharmacy workforce through participation in weekend and bank holiday working as per the rota.
  13. Contribute to Diabetes ordering requests (pumps and consumables) from our patients and clinical teams). Keeping updated knowledge of new products released in the market is also crucial. Any issues that arise should be immediately escalated.

  • Good general education including at least three GCSEs at grade C or above (including English and Maths)
  • Knowledge of finance department procedures gained through on the job training/AAT Foundation Level (NVQ2)
  • ECDL or equivalent experience

  • Experience of procurement process and practice including management of invoicing and payment activities
  • Demonstrable experience in developing and writing work instructions and training packages
