We are seeking to recruit a senior clinician with a great track record of successful leadership in a complex healthcare organisation to support and deputise for our Medical Director. They will play an integral role in ensuring ongoing strong clinical leadership based in our busy acute hospital in Portsmouth on the south coast. Main duties of the job

The Deputy Medical Director will support clinical leadership capability in Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust, working directly to the PHU Medical Director and therefore also support the emerging Group model between PHU and the Isle of Wight NHS Trust. They will support and deputise for the full portfolio of the PHU Medical Director, including participating in Group and partnership discussions and providing senior medical leadership input and advice to the Board, Executive team and the Trust as required. The post holder will devote a minimum of 50% of their substantive job plan to the role, though this will be flexible depending on the needs of the individual and the organisation. It is anticipated that the role requires a time allocation equivalent to a minimum average of 5PAs per week. The successful candidate will be on the GMC specialist register via CCT, CESR or European Community Rights.

  • Member/Fellow of appropriate Royal College
  • Significant experience of working as Consultant in an Acute Hospital
  • Evidence of continuing professional & personal development as a clinical leader
  • Specialist research/education/management qualification
