Job responsibilities

What You'll Do: Collaborate with Senior Ward Leadership: Work closely with our senior ward leadership team to deliver high quality care for Head and Neck patients. Diverse Patient Cohort: Care for a diverse patient population, including both elective and emergency patients from ENT and Maxillofacial specialties. Emergency Care Unit within E10: Work alongside the Nurse practitioner team of our short-day emergency care unit (SDEC) also known as the Head and Neck assessment unit (HNAU) which provides treatment for ward attenders and handling ENT emergencies from the region. Lead Nursing Teams: Take on a leadership role within the nursing teams, stepping into the role of Nurse in Charge. In the absence of senior management, you'll also liaise with the Duty Matron. Role Model for Exceptional Care: On your shifts, set the standard for exceptional nursing care, managing bed flow efficiently for both emergency and elective procedures, lead the ward nursing workforce. Collaboration with Nurse Practitioners: Work closely with Nurse Practitioners in the Head and Neck Assessment Unit (HNAU) to ensure efficiency of the service. Work alongside the Tracheostomy nurse specialist to ensure the airway management of complex patients is a priority and the Head and Neck Cancer nurse specialists for those patients on the difficult cancer journey. Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Collaborate closely with surgical and medical colleagues to provide comprehensive patient care. Clinical Governance: Assist in the management of ward clinical governance, including incident investigations, report compilation, and presenting findings when the ward manager is unavailable. Education Leadership: Play a key role in various education streams, leading efforts to ensure nursing staff deliver high-quality patient care while adhering to protocols. Specialised Clinical Skills: If you possess head and neck specific clinical skills, it's a valuable asset. You'll be responsible for coordinating head and neck emergencies and collaborating closely with Nurse Practitioners in this area.

  • Current RN +/- RN, registration with NMC and any other relevant post registration qualifications
  • BSc Degree in relevant field (Desirable - Masters degree and evidence of working towards)
  • Post Reg. qualifications for specialty area
  • Leadership development programme
  • Teaching qualification /experience and accredited NMC before mentorship course
  • Evidence of team leadership and change management with relevant management/leadership course
