Job summary

We are seeking an outstanding and dynamic person, experienced in driving cancer research strategy through to implementation.

This is an exceptional and exciting opportunity to be a part of a senior research leadership team that will be driving and developing lasting cancer research partnerships across NHS Wales and Higher Education, shaping the development new CCRH infrastructure, and providing innovative cancer research opportunities for patients in Wales.

The role will have high level oversight of CCRH operational matters, developing a CCRH financial strategy with leaders developing associated business cases to ensure long term sustainability for the new CCRH infrastructure and workforce.

The post will develop, implement and direct the emerging Cardiff Cancer Research Hub (CCRH), a physical facility based at the University of Wales Heath Park site, to enable the delivery of novel and advanced therapy clinical trials and develop translational research with our NHS (Cardiff and Vale University Health Board) and academic (Cardiff University) partners.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work with senior RD&I teams in Velindre and with University Health Boards across South East Wales, directing the implementation of Velindre's 10 year cancer research strategy that will bring benefits through research for patients of today and of tomorrow.

The post will develop and manage research partnerships with diverse stakeholder groups (i.e. patients, the public, researchers, University Health Boards (UHBs) Academic Institutions, Welsh Government, Third Sector, Pharma and cancer research and innovation organisations) to enable research success

The postholder will support Executive Directors, Divisional Directors the Executive Board Lead for RD&I, the Clinical Lead for Cancer R&D Strategy, the Associate Medical Director for RD&I and Senior RD&I Leaders within Velindre University NHS Trust.

The post holder will be primarily responsible for implementing the Velindre Cancer Research Strategy within Velindre Cancer Centre, in Cardiff and across the South East Wales region.

They will be responsible for financial management of the budget, to enable the implementation of the strategy and the development and delivery of the Cardiff Cancer Research Hub, including the management of research income associated with the CCRH.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this role; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
