Job summary

As a Specialist Podiatrist you will provide specialist footcare to groups of patients with a wide variety of clinical needs. This includes patients with high risk feet, acute and chronic foot wounds, MSK conditions and those requiring minor surgery. This may include rotations in to specialist areas, including in to the acute diabetic foot clinic. The post holder is responsible for planning and managing their own caseload, working as an autonomous practitioner and being legally accountable for all aspects of their clinical work.

Royal Devon University Healthcare Trust Eastern Podiatry Service has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and highly motivated podiatrist, to join our friendly team. The post is a part-time, fixed term post (until end March 2026) covering covering Exeter, east and mid Devon.

The successful candidate will have the ability to work autonomously, managing a high-risk podiatric caseload, in single or multi-chair clinics, as well as domiciliary settings. This will include assessment, diagnosis and treatment planning for patients with a wide range of clinical needs. There will be opportunities to help set up and manage virtual and telephone clinics, as well as take part in nail surgery, MSK, education and audit.

You should possess a good knowledge of the high-risk foot and be confident in managing foot ulceration, linking in with the integrated diabetic foot pathway, to support the reduction of diabetes lower limb amputations.

You should have experience in lone working, demonstrate a sound understanding of clinical governance and risk management.

You should be able to work on your own and as part of a team, demonstrating excellent communication and interpersonal skills, particularly in linking with other healthcare teams. You should be highly organised, using your initiative and be keen to make a positive contribution to the redesign of the service.

You should be aware of professional and national guidelines and be up to date with current best practice. You should possess an interest in clinical audit and research, in line with service development.

A degree or diploma in podiatry with current HCPC registration and a local analgesia certificate is a mandatory requirement. Minimum of 2 years post graduate experience required.

This includes being clinically responsible for assessment, diagnosis and the implementation of individualised care plans, working autonomously, as well as part of multidisciplinary teams. As part of the Podiatry service, the post will be based in a variety of settings including acute and community hospitals/clinics and home visits. They will also take part in virtual/telephone clinics and triaging. The post holder will be required to supervise staff at lower grades, volunteers, podiatry apprentices and podiatry/medical students. They will act as a mentor for podiatry students/apprenticeships and new qualified podiatrists. As well as being responsible for their own continued professional development, the post holder will take a role in projects to help further the development of the service, as well as support senior podiatry management with tasks as required. Caseloads will be flexible and at times may involve the provision of service to other areas of the Trust, if required.

Working Pattern: Monday to Friday 08:30am - 16:30pm
