Job summary
Apprentices will work as part of a team to provide a broad range of technical support under the supervision of senior technical staff in the genomics laboratory. The successful candidates will be team players with excellent attention to detail and a meticulous approach to laboratory work. They will work as part of a team and play a key role in providing high quality sample testing and technical support that is integral to the genomic testing services offered by the department, ensuring an accurate, safe, efficient and timely service to patients.
The Genomics Laboratory at the Royal Devon University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is at the forefront of NHS Genomic Medicine, providing state-of-the-art diagnostic testing for the benefit of families with rare diseases across the UK and beyond. We are proud to have launched the national NHS rapid whole genome sequencing service for acutely unwell babies and children. The team works closely with an internationally acclaimed research team with expertise in the genetics of diabetes and hyperinsulinism, providing a range of specialist tests to users throughout the world. The laboratory works in partnership with the Bristol Genetics Laboratory as the South West Genomic Laboratory Hub, with the Exeter Laboratory focused on specialist endocrine services and exome/genome analysis for rare diseases.
