The band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse role encompasses both direct patient care as well as leadership and management responsibilities. The post-holder will be required to:

• Demonstrating clinical expertise within haemodialysis in the assessment, planning, delivery of care using a holistic approach
• Act as a shift coordinator and deputise for the Clinical Nurse Manager in their absence (to include off-duty planning and management of patient schedule)
• Delegate and provide supervision, mentoring and support to colleagues
• understand the process of clinical governance and act to ensure continuity of high standards of quality care (eg incident report investigations, promoting local policies and procedures and Trust values, undertaking audits)
• Act as a credible and professional role model and encourage and empower other staff to develop both personally and professionally to achieve their maximum potential
• Work towards the objectives of the wider renal service and local objectives and be proactive in service development/improvement
• Understand and participate in the day-to-day running of the unit as well as longer term planning of resources
• Possess excellent communication skills with both patients and colleagues and be able to utilise these skills in challenging circumstances
• Demonstrating initiative and the ability to work independently.

You will be supported in this position by the Clinical Nurse Manager and existing Charge Nurse, as well as the wider renal multi-disciplinary team based in Exeter. There will also be opportunities to undertake additional training to help develop competencies and knowledge linked to the role.

Working Pattern: 37.5 hours per week. The working pattern will be a mixture of early (07:30-18:30)and late (12:00-23:00) shifts worked Monday-Saturday. We are closed on Sundays, Christmas Day and New Year's Day, with no overnight working required.
