Job summary

  • To lead and manage service development and improvement
  • Provide excellent customer care which may include communication with distressed and anxious patients and relatives, treating them with tact and empathy
  • The role will coordinate and organise the attendance of patients to outpatient, inpatient & day case appointments in line with local and national Access Policy arrangements as instructed Access Policy NHSmail Support NHS Royal Devon
  • Ensure all administrative processes; and enquiries are dealt with in an efficient and timely manner, following agreed standard operating procedures, escalating to senior manager as appropriate
  • Proof reading clinical letters (please note there is no audio typing in this role)
  • Monitoring waiting times, ensuring RTT (Referral to Treatment) pathways are accurate and up to date (NHS England Referral to treatment)
  • Booking appointments and surgery dates from waiting lists
  • Setting up and updating Clinics/Theatre Bookings as required
  • Assisting and supporting (including cross covering) other members of the administrative team across the department or division, including dealing with telephone calls and resolving enquiries for patients, their carers and visitors.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and experienced individual to join our busy Ophthalmology team in the role of Service Coordinator / Team Leader based in Axminster Hospital.

This a newly created position at Axminster whereby you would be involved in service improvement and development and be a key member of the team. This could be a great opportunity for career progression for the right candidate.

We are looking for a candidate who enjoys working within a busy and vibrant team, is able to prioritise their workload, and who can remain calm under pressure.

You must have the ability to communicate with people calmly, sensitively and effectively both on the telephone and in person. A flexible and calm approach to staff and patients will be a necessity, alongside the ability to support staff through change.

You will also have excellent interpersonal skills and experience in dealing with patients. You will need to have the ability to use your own initiative, prioritising your workload to meet the changing needs of the department. You will be flexible, excellent at problem solving and adaptable with excellent IT skills.

The successful candidates will be responsible for the supervision and leadership of the Axminster Ophthalmology Administration Team. This exciting role is challenging, fast-paced and a great development opportunity in which you will be fully supported.

As a Service Coordinator based in the Axminster hospital, you will be adaptable, patient and work well under pressure, enhancing patient care for our Ophthalmology patients.

Working Pattern: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Thursday, hours negotiable. Friday 8am - 5pm.

Pay:The salary advertised for this position reflects the Agenda for Change 2024-5 rates, inclusive of a 5.5% pay award implemented from October 2024. If you join before this date, the pay award will be backdated to April 2024 or your start date, whichever is later. Until then, remuneration will be based on the 2023-4 pay bandings (Pay scales for 2023/24 | NHS Employers)
