We have an exciting opportunity to join Royal Devon University Healthcare Trust in the Stroke Psychology services for North & East Devon. You will be joining well established, valued services, working with Multidisciplinary teams in providing high quality, evidence-based care to stroke survivors and families across the pathway. The role will be both varied and dynamic, supporting development of the range of Psychological skills and knowledge required in Community stroke pathways. The post is Band 7, open to accredited Psychological Therapists and qualified Practitioner Clinical or Counselling Psychologists or those qualifying Autumn 2023.

This is an exciting time for Stroke services, with the introduction of Integrated Stroke Delivery Networks and the new National Stroke Service Model. RDUHT has received Catalyst funding from NHE England to pilot the delivery of a new Psychological Workforce Model for Stroke survivors. These posts offer great opportunities for working with other Professionals within Devon and the wider region in developing services. This is a Multi-agency project involving RDUHT, the Stroke Association, and the Long-Term Conditions Talking Therapies Service and Clinical Health Psychology & Neuropsychology (CHPN) Services in Devon Partnership NHS Trust where you will have access to strong Psychology support and leadership. The CHPN Department are a group of Psychologists working into a range of physical health settings including brain injury and long-term Neurological conditions. Working with other Psychologists in Stroke will provide great opportunities for support, supervision and leadership. In this role you will have supervision and support from experienced principal clinical and Neuropsychologists in stroke who have been appointed to clinically lead the project.

Main duties of the job will involve:

  • Provide a Psychology service to stroke survivors and their families following discharge from their acute admission (within the Community inpatient Rehabilitation units, homes or other Community settings) sometimes requiring travel. This will include supporting assessment processes, delivering Psychological therapy to stroke survivors and their families, providing individual and group interventions were required, and supporting staff training initiatives.
  • Working collaboratively with the Stroke Psychology team which includes Neuropsychologists, Psychologists, Assistant Psychologists, Psychological Therapists and Stroke Counsellors in the delivery of a matched model of care for both cognitive and emotional difficulties post stroke.
  • Working collaboratively with the stroke MDT in the delivery of a matched model of care for both cognitive and emotional difficulties post stroke, involving significant role in consultation, advice, training and supervision.

Training and Development are in high supply here, whether you are interested in Clinical or Leadership development courses we'll support you in finding the best way to grow. We actively encourage CPD and you will have an opportunity to spend time with our range of specialists as part of your CPD.

Innovation is central to the stroke and Neuro-rehabilitation services at the Trust, demonstrated by the implementation of several new initiatives and the development of non-traditional roles in recent years including a Research and Innovation Lead, Consultant AHPs, ACP and FCP roles. This Catalyst pilot project is a further example of innovation that will address the Psychological needs of stroke survivors and their families alongside the existing Multi-disciplinary teams to maximise Clinical outcomes and secure cost-savings in overall service delivery. The service will be fully evaluated to inform future service development and business cases.

Working Pattern: The role will cover weekdays, and full and part-time working will be considered. We have a flexible working policy that we are happy to discuss to establish suitable options for you and the Department.
