We are looking for a dynamic Physiotherapy Advanced Practitioner to provide clinical and operational leadership to the Acute Medical Team. The post holder will be a co worker, working across Respiratory, Cardiology, Medical Assessment Unit and Acute Medicine supporting an integrated team of Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy staff. This is a new post so there is an opportunity to separate out areas of responsibility.
The Medical Respiratory team sits within the Acute Inpatient Therapy team alongside the other sub teams of Surgical (Critical care, Surgery, Paediatrics) Trauma and Orthopaedics, and Medical Rehabilitation services (Frailty, Gastroenterology and Pathway 2 Rehabilitation beds).
There will be a requirement to support the wider Respiratory team in the absence of the Advanced Practitioner for Critical care/Surgery/paediatrics.
You will be required to ensure delivery of high quality patient centred care measured by clinical effectiveness, patient safety and patient experience in line with national guidance.
You will be expected to work as an autonomous practitioner, be up to date with evidence-based practice and be able to offer advanced assessment and treatment skills of patients who are acutely unwell.
The post holder will be required to work with the other Advanced Practitioners to provide teaching of respiratory competencies to enable staff to work on the on call rotas and provide an education programme for the Physiotherapy staff to enable staff to maintain competencies and the development depth of knowledge.
You will be responsible for ensuring excellence with in the team by initiating and participating in evidence-based projects and audit, to improve both immediate and future quality of care.
About You
You will be required to have experience at working in Acute Medicine and treating acutely unwell patients. As part of the role there will be a need to provide advanced physiotherapy advice to the team and other disciplines / agencies. You will need to be able to cope with demands on your time with frequent interruptions.
It is a requirement of the role to evidence post graduate training at a Master level or equivalent. You do not need to have completed a full Masters.

Innovation is central to therapies at the Royal Devon, demonstrated by the implementation of several new initiatives and the development of non-traditional roles in recent years including a Research and Innovation Lead. The Respiratory service has grown with the development of a Respiratory Clinical Lead and the development of an Outpatient Respiratory Service.
Working Pattern: 8.30 - 16.30, including supporting the evening, weekend and bank holiday Respiratory on call roster. This is a full time post.
