Job summary

Southampton Autism Assessment Service are recruiting an assistant psychologist to support the specialist neurodevelopmental assessments.

This post is working within the Autism Assessment service with close links with the Specialist CAMHS ADHD service. You will be trained in relevant assessment tools and will work within the service carrying out autism assessments alongside the wider multi-disciplinary team. The candidate will work alongside the clinical lead in screening referrals, gathering information from multiple sources and making clinical decisions on the appropriateness of the referrals, under supervision.

This is a full-time permanent post that should appeal to an enthusiastic and highly motivated candidate who is interested in developing skills in assessment of children with complex needs. There are assistant psychologists within the autism assessment team as well as several clinical psychologists, trainees, and assistants within the wider CAMHS team. You would be linked in with them for your professional development.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will have an Honours Degree in Psychology and experience of working with children or adults with disability, mental health, or behaviour difficulties. The post holder will have excellent communication skills and ability to engage children and young people in structured activities. Previous experience as an Assistant Psychologist including administration of psychometric assessments, audit and clinical is desirable.

You will be working as part of well-established multidisciplinary teams of friendly and highly experienced practitioners. You will have opportunities to develop specialist clinical skills in psychometric testing, parent interviews, and structured observations for Autism and ADHD. You will contribute to multi-disciplinary assessments and care plans. You will receive regular supervision from qualified practitioners and will be strongly encouraged to develop professionally including applying for Doctoral training.

About us

We have been working with other local NHS Trusts to create a new organisation, bringing together all community, mental health and learning disability services from across Hampshire and Isle of Wight. Subject to approvals, the aim is for the new Trust to be formed by the end of 2024.

Project Fusion is the name for the programme to create the new combined NHS Foundation Trust. Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust will be bringing the services into a single organisation will result in more consistent care, more equitable access to services irrespective of postcode, and a more sustainable workforce and services. The new organisation will operate locally to ensure services can best meet the needs of different communities.

The new Trust will be comprised of all the services currently provided by Solent NHS Trust and Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust, the community, mental health and learning disability services provided by Isle of Wight NHS Trust and child and adolescent mental health services delivered in parts of Hampshire by Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.

Colleagues will transfer to the new organisation under Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) -- known as TUPE on the day the trust is formed. TUPE is a legal process to ensure you transfer out of one organisation and into another, maintaining the terms and conditions of your employment.
