Job summary
Solent NHS are looking for an energetic and enthusiastic Clinical Director to join the Adults Portsmouth Team.
The successful candidate will be accountable for all functions of the Adults Portsmouth Service Line incorporating adult wards, community nursing, rapid response services, speech and language therapies, physiotherapy and occupational therapy and other specialist services. The integration and partnership with social care and primary care, via Primary Care Networks is a critical component to the delivery of effective services.
This accountability extends to the operational, quality, and strategic functions of the Service Line, and how these are kept in balance with each other. The role will be fully supported through the usual range of supervision and appraisal which will be accompanied by a bespoke package agreed with the successful candidate.
As Clinical Director, you will set the vision and direction for the service line, in the context of the wider functions of the Trust and the regional health and social care economy and be accountable for how well it performs in pursuit of the vision, whilst offering great care, great value for money, and being a great place to work for its staff.
The Clinical Director will also be responsible for the visible leadership of all colleagues within the service line and specifically the line management of the Operations Director and the Head of Quality & Professions of the Service Line, as leader of the Adults Portsmouth Senior Management Team.
Main duties of the job
Setting the vision and strategic direction for the service line, in alignment with organisational strategic objectives
Taking accountability for all service line quality issues, incorporating the safety, effectiveness, and patient experience of our care, as well as the staff experience in providing it. The post holder will chair the service clinical governance group.
Working in collaboration with other Solent and external organisations to develop and deliver strategic plans which cross organisational boundaries.
To be a member of various Trust governance for a, including the Quality Improvement and Risk (QIR) committee, the Trust Senior Leadership Team (SLT) Meeting, the Clinical Director Forum, the regular meetings between Clinical Directors and the Executive team, and Care Group meetings.
To provide Clinical Leadership within the service management team, contributing to the service's strategies, plans, policies, and programmes, always quality assuring the service.
To ensure that the COO, CNO & CMO are properly advised on major professional nursing, AHP or medical practitioner issues, practices and policies affecting the service.
To support the development and implementation of service management creating a culture and vision for the Trust that embraces change.
To ensure staff and other resources are secured, deployed, and managed effectively and that the service has a competent, capable, and motivated workforce.
About us
We have been working with other local NHS Trusts to create a new organisation, bringing together all community, mental health and learning disability services from across Hampshire and Isle of Wight. Subject to approvals, the aim is for the new Trust to be formed by the end of 2024.
Project Fusion is the name for the programme to create the new combined NHS Foundation Trust. Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust will be bringing the services into a single organisation will result in more consistent care, more equitable access to services irrespective of postcode, and a more sustainable workforce and services. The new organisation will operate locally to ensure services can best meet the needs of different communities.
The new Trust will be comprised of all the services currently provided by Solent NHS Trust and Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust, the community, mental health and learning disability services provided by Isle of Wight NHS Trust and child and adolescent mental health services delivered in parts of Hampshire by Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.
Colleagues will transfer to the new organisation under Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) -- known as TUPE on the day the trust is formed. TUPE is a legal process to ensure you transfer out of one organisation and into another, maintaining the terms and conditions of your employment.
