We are seeking to recruit highly motivated and innovative practitioners to train as Health Visitors, to lead 0-19 Public Health Nursing and deliver great service to our children and families in Southampton.
Specialist Community Public Health Nurses (SCPHN's) work at individual, community and population level in a preventative social model of health, designed to empower families to take control of and improve their own health and wellbeing.
We are inviting NMC qualified nurses (Part 1, Part 2), to apply for a training contract to complete the PgDip/MSc in Public Health Practice, with University of Surrey commencing September 2024 to be completed by September 2025.
As well as academic study you will experience placements within Health Visiting teams in Southampton. On successful completion of your studies you will gain a Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (SCPHN) qualification in Health Visiting, be offered a post (location to be determined) within our services and paid at salary Band 6.
Main duties of the job
To work as a Student Specialist Community Public Health Nurse within the community as a member of a multi-disciplinary Health Visiting & School Nursing Team
To work under the guidance of both a Community Practice Assessor and/or Practice Supervisor
To work with the academic tutor responsible for overseeing your progress and engage in use of the web based learning facilities provided by the relevant University.
To attend regular supervisory meetings with PA and/or PS to reflect on practice.
To attend practice placement on days designated by the university (including consolidated practice), accounting in your diary for practice hours. The course requires that the student will spend 50% of their time in University and 50% out in practice. The Programme is designed to meet the NMC requirement of 50% practice 50% theory.
To meet regulations laid down by the University and comply with the guidance in the relevant University Student Handbook
As a Registered Nurse to comply with the NMC code of professional conduct. In addition to comply with the Policies and Procedures of Solent NHS Trust
About us
We have been working with other local NHS Trusts to create a new organisation, bringing together all community, mental health and learning disability services from across Hampshire and Isle of Wight. Subject to approvals, the aim is for the new Trust to be formed by the end of 2024.
Project Fusion is the name for the programme to create the new combined NHS Foundation Trust. Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust will be bringing the services into a single organisation will result in more consistent care, more equitable access to services irrespective of postcode, and a more sustainable workforce and services. The new organisation will operate locally to ensure services can best meet the needs of different communities.
The new Trust will be comprised of all the services currently provided by Solent NHS Trust and Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust, the community, mental health and learning disability services provided by Isle of Wight NHS Trust and child and adolescent mental health services delivered in parts of Hampshire by Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.
Colleagues will transfer to the new organisation under Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) -- known as TUPE on the day the trust is formed. TUPE is a legal process to ensure you transfer out of one organisation and into another, maintaining the terms and conditions of your employment.
