Job summary
Solent NHS Trusts Adult Mental Health inpatient service, The Orchards, includes two inpatient wards (Acute and Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit). The Orchards consists of multi-professional teams including Mental Health Nurses, Social Workers, Clinical Psychologists, Consultant Psychiatrists, pharmacists, support workers, Physiotherapists, and Occupational Therapists. The inpatient wards work closely with other mental health and community services to support people to recover from mental health illness through brief intervention and/or referral to other services.
The Orchards is looking to recruit two additional Band 2 Activity Coordinators to enable us to extend our therapeutic programme 7 days a week. We have two full time roles, one permanent and one fixed term for a year. Therapeutic activity is recognised as having an essential and core role within a patient's recovery journey. The successful applicant will be managed by the Allied Health Professional Team Lead and work with other Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapy Assistants and Activity Coordinators. The successful applicant will be fully supported to grow and develop as a Health Care Professional and will receive support to find a career route which is right for them. This role is ideal for someone who is new to mental health and/or working in the NHS who would like to use their personal values and attributes to engage people in their recovery journey.
Main duties of the job
- To provide opportunities for patients within inpatient Adult Mental Health services to engage in meaningful activity through the provision of a varied and flexible programme of therapeutic social and recreational activities.
- To work together with Nurses, Occupational Therapists and Psychologists to provide a weekly ward programme of activities and contribute to the psychological groups offered off the ward. This will support service users to enhance their health and well-being and promote their Recovery.
- To demonstrate flexibility and participate in ward daily routines as necessary to ensure safety and efficiency of unit.
- To demonstrate flexibility regarding hours of duty to best meet service user needs, which may include some evening and weekend working.
