Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our established and dynamic Inpatient Neurorehabilitation team. We are looking for an enthusiastic, forward thinking and committed Occupational Therapist with strong clinical and team working skills to deliver high quality rehabilitation to our inpatients on snowdon ward. The role is ideal for an OT who has passion for development and wishes to become a clinical expert in their field.

You'll work within a supportive rehabilitation multidisciplinary team with a supportive management structure which welcomes innovation and quality improvement whilst prioritising staff well-being.

There will be a variety of opportunities including developing complex assessment and treatment skills for our inpatients, within a team which advocates for close multidisciplinary working. The role also includes the opportunity to conduct assessments of patients on our waiting list that advises our patient flow as well as developing management skills when deputising for the therapy team lead. We will invest in your development and our wish is to have an OT who has specialist splinting skills and the ability to conduct postural management and SMART assessments.

Hours are negotiable and can be discussed at interview.

Main duties of the job

As part of Solent's Futures Project, we will be working in partnership with the new build at the Western Community Hospital site where a new purpose built 'state of the art' rehabilitation centre of clinical excellence. This creates multiple opportunities to drive the team forward to excel in service provision.

Snowdon is a 16 bedded unit which specialises in the treatment of adults with physical and cognitive impairment following a neurological event or a long- term neurological condition. We offer specialist in-patient neurological rehabilitation. Snowdon is recognised as providing specialist neurorehabilitation as a level 2 Unit.

In this role you will:

  • Undertake the Specialist therapy role in leading, planning, and co-ordinating the delivery and evaluation of the service.
  • Take a major role in the advanced specialist therapy intervention as part of the specialist team, assessing and treating own caseload of patients who may have a complex presentation and maintain associated records as an autonomous practitioner.
  • Deputise for the operational lead in their absence as required.
  • Undertake evidence-based projects, including recommendations for change in practice and participate in research and audit.
  • Provide spontaneous and planned advice, teaching and instruction to relatives, carers, and other professionals to promote understanding of the aims of the Complex Neuro rehabilitation service and to ensure a consistent approach to patient care.
