Job summary

Portsmouth City has been selected to take part in a national NHS England initiative known as the 'Early Language Support for Every Child' (ELSEC) that is being delivered in 9 sites across the UK as part of the wider Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Alternative Provision (SENDAP) implementation.

As a result of this, we are looking for two dynamic and experienced senior speech and language therapists to help to lead a new speech and language therapy service, aimed at the universal and targeted level of provision for children with speech, language and communication needs in the early years. The new team will consist of a team of speech and language therapists and newly trained speech and language therapy assistants, and will work in an integrated model of care with our local authority partners. You will have proven experience of developing and delivering innovative services, training and development and quality improvement. You will be expected to work at an enhanced level of clinical practice. Training and development support will be available for you to develop your expertise in this exciting area of clinical practice.

Main duties of the job

*To be a source of specialist knowledge and provide a highly specialist Speech and Language Therapy Service to children and families accessing the Early Language Support as part of the ELSEC project in Portsmouth city

*To provide a lead role across the Service & Trust for a Clinical Pathway, working with Locality Leads and other Clinical Pathway Leads, providing clinical leadership, driving forward service development, maintaining standards and ensuring the provision of up-to-date evidence based care.

*To devise and deliver training packages to partner stakeholders in Portsmouth City in order that they can support the needs of children with SLCN and their families

*To support and develop skills in others (within the NHS Speech and Language Therapy Service; speech and language therapy assistants, multiagency staff working in Portsmouth City, volunteers, students, collaborators) for developing early language and communication skills in children living in Portsmouth City

*To understand and interpret the evidence base for intervention with families across universal, targeted and specialist areas

*In collaboration with the Clinical Lead for the ELSEC project, to devise, implement and analyse outcome measures to monitor the impact of the ELSEC project
