Job summary

Join our Mental Health service and train to be a Dialectical Behaviour Therapist!

We are offering a training role for an experienced registered mental health professional to become a Dialectical Behaviour Therapist as part of our established and welcoming team.

You will already hold a graduate level qualification in mental health or learning disability (Please see the BABCP website and person spec for more detail of accepted qualifications).

And you will want to develop yourself further by completing this training in order to provide a great service to people with complex needs who access DBT.

This is a 2 year fixed term appointment leading to a permanent Psychological Therapist post at the end of this period, if the postgraduate diploma in DBT is completed successfully. Training is provided by the highly reputable British Isles DBT Training and Bangor University in a distance learning format over 2 years. You will be supported by the University, our DBT team and multi-disciplinary colleagues throughout your time with us.

Main duties of the job

This is a training role within the Trust's Mental Health Psychological Professions Service in Secondary Mental Health Care. It has been created as part of the national Improving Psychological Therapies for Severe Mental Health Problems programme. The post-holder will be supported to train in and deliver Dialectical Behaviour Therapy as part of an established team.

This role is a 2-year fixed term appointment leading to a permanent Psychological Therapist* post at the end of this period if the postgraduate diploma programme is completed successfully. This intensive training will equip the post holder to provide a DBT service to patients with a range of complex problems. The study requirements are documented in the 'HEE commissioned Postgraduate Diploma in DBT'^. On average you will work a minimum of 21 hours a week; 15 hours applying the training in your clinical practice and the remainder attending / studying the university training programme this is a distance learning course.

This role will involve working within an established psychological therapy service. The primary purpose of the role will be to support the delivery of interventions for people with enduring and complex mental health needs. This will include working both individually and in groups, under appropriate clinical supervision. Work will also involve working with other people involved in the individuals' care, e.g. family or named carers. A recovery focused approach is essential.
