Job summary

Applications are invited for the position of Healthcare Support Worker for the Community Paediatric Medical Service where we cover locations including Portsmouth City, Havant and Fareham & Gosport.

The Community Paediatric Medical Service offers a specialist service for children and young people with a range of developmental needs, including physical and or learning disabilities. This includes detailed medical assessments, investigations, diagnosis, treatment or interventions according to need.

The service is mainly delivered in community clinics, but children may also be seen in special schools and occasionally in a hospital setting.

The role requires attention to detail using the Electronic Patient Records System accurately and other administration tasks along with plenty of direct clinical contact with patients and their carers. An ability to work well as part of a team and be able to adapt to change within a busy environment is vital. Training will be provided where required along with regular supervision and support.

Main duties of the job

To assist in Community Paediatric Medical Service clinics where children of varying abilities and needs are assessed. To assist in assessments as requested by the Paediatrician. (training will be provided to carry out relevant assessments i.e. Schedule of Growing Skills).

To provide clinical support and administrative assistance as required to a range of medical and nursing staff in the Community Paediatric Medical Service.

The service also carries out assessments for Looked After Children and those requiring medicals where there are Safeguarding concerns.

The service is mainly delivered in community clinics, but children may also be seen in special schools and occasionally in a hospital setting.

The service works closely with other services to meet the needs of patients including GP's, Therapy Services, Education and Children's Social Care.

The service works to the highest possible standards by adhering to national and locally agreed guidelines and standards for various medical conditions to improve outcomes for children.
