Job summary
We're looking for a dynamic Exercise Therapy Assistant / Rehabilitation Assistant to join our Pulmonary Rehabilitation team. You will be supporting patients with COPD across the city of Southampton. You will work as a key member of the integrated COPD team to assist with effective delivery and development of COPD care.
Pulmonary Rehabilitation is a very important treatment for patients with breathing problems helping them to increase their independence, function, and quality of life.
This is an interesting post where you will be involved in supporting medical clinics, assessing patient before and after their rehabilitation programmes. You will also be working with the clinical staff and other exercise professionals in our team to deliver group and 1:1 pulmonary rehabilitation sessions.

Main duties of the job
The role will be split between the PR classes and the Consultant clinics.
Clinical skills
*Be able to achieve competencies for the role including inhaler technique assessment, PR delivery and walk test competencies
*Attend health promotion training and support patients to stop smoking
*Carry out basic health care observations permitting completion of NEWS2 and other required objective parameters for the consultation
PR
*Set up PR classes, creating a safe and optimal environment for treatment; clear away equipment and ensure all infection control procedures are followed to decontaminate environment.
*Support clinical staff with patient assessment possibly including welcoming, inducting patients walking tests and completion of patient questionnaires.
*Support clinical staff during the exercise classes, checking in patients, demonstrating, modifying and progressing exercise under supervision of clinical staff.
*Manage a caseload delegated by clinicians, undertaking basic assessments and treatment interventions as agreed with the clinicians.
*Support patient with digital technologies and use of online resources.
Consultant clinics
*Set up clinic environment according to protocols.
*Calibrate and set up spirometer.
*Carry out basic observations and history taking.
*Carry out baseline spirometery after training.
*Ensure clinic lists and other patient related information are available e.g. test results
*Maintain stocks of all patient related paperwork and leaflets at clinic.
