Job summary
We are a busy Level 3 integrated Sexual Health Service covering Portsmouth, Southampton, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.
We operate a hub and spoke model of care to provide screening, diagnosis and treatment of sexually transmitted infections, HIV care, provision and ongoing management of PrEP and PEPSE, contraception including emergency contraception, vasectomy, sexual health promotion, sexual health advising and partner notification, psychosexual counselling and an outreach service.
The service offers an online screening service and an advice and signposting telephone line in addition to appointments..
Our sexual health service is designed and managed using Systems Thinking principles. The service is undergoing a change process based upon the Vanguard Method of Systems Thinking. Our service is designed to ensure that the journey through our healthcare system is patient-focused, personalised, and clinically effective from first point of contact. When patients contact the service they speak with a trained nurse. This ensures that patients are cared for by the most appropriate staff member; have an appropriate length of time booked, should an appointment be required; and are provided with the clinical and practical advice required to maximise the quality of their care. We also do our utmost to ensure that appointments are booked at times and on dates that fit in with our patients' lives.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work to patient Group Directions to supply and administer first time and repeat injectable, oral and emergency contraception.
Use skills to take a sexual history and screen male and female clients for sexually transmitted infections (including vaginal and testicular examinations) and treat if appropriate with relevant PGD.
Treat clients that are contacts of sexually transmitted infections.
Undertake microscopy for the diagnosis of sexually transmitted infections.
To undertake Systems thinking phone calls via service wide call plans, booking appointments, undertaking remote consultations, treatment by post consultations, sexual health advice and signposting
The post holder will undertake venepuncture. As agreed within the needs of the service and adhering to ethical guidelines for nursing staff, be able to assess and manage clients within the termination of pregnancy service following relevant training.
Respect the confidentiality and privacy of clients and staff at all times in accordance with service procedures and Data Protection Act.
Participate in individual performance review, using the appraisal process to identify own professional development needs in accordance with the service and Trust needs
Be responsible for maintaining professional knowledge and competency in all areas of work.
To be aware of and comply with Solent NHS Trust procedures regarding safeguarding adults and children.
